Daughters first BUCK!!!
«

October 15, 2018, 10:59:05 AM »
For the past 3 years my now 10 year old daughter has hunted harder than most of the adults that I know. I am a very ''get off the road'' type of hunter so I took her on some monster hikes and though we had a few opportunities to see some bucks we just could't make it happen. Such is the life of hunting with young kids. Our past seasons have been hard earned and she has found success in harvesting a few nice doe but never a buck. After a failed opening day hunt we gained permission onto some property that looked promising but when we hit the back side of the property line we noticed a buck into some other stuff that was clearly not part of the section we had permission. I am a responsible and ethical hunter and I am raising my daughter to be the same so we hunkered down and I pulled up the ONX map. The half section of land where the buck was standing was owned by a name that sounded very familiar to me. It struck me that it was the same name as one of the girls on the softball team that I coach which was significant as we were about 4 hours from home. I text her mother and after connecting some dots I was able to gain permission to access the land. We hit the property line and about 20 minutes later my daughter was standing over her very first buck! I am so grateful my daughter was able to shoot her first buck and also that I could teach her a lesson in being a responsible huntress. We have built a stronger bond and gained a memory that will never fade.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when. No habitat = no game.
